BIP 148 is a user-activated soft fork (UASF) in bitcoin that enforces the use of the Segregated Witness or SegWit protocol, which is a change that deals with a bitcoin block size problem by separating the digital signature from the original section of the block. As a soft fork, BIP 148 does not inherently split the network. UASF chain (BIP 148) : User Activated Soft Fork ( BIP 148 ) was to approach segwit implementation by making a 100 % 1 bit signaling chain (for segwit). Simply speaking on August 1 , 2017 all the blocks who want to support this proposal will start orphaning blocks that are not signalining bit 1 for segwit. BIP-148 is a UASF that is designed to cause the existing SegWit MASF (Miner Activated Soft Fork) deployment to cause activation in all existing SegWit capable node software (which represents 80% of network nodes). How Does BIP-148 Work?

And BIP 148 is for people who are signalling for a UASF which will split the coin, whilst implementing segwit2x? So the difference between a USAF AND UHAF is,

Specifically, they will reject any Bitcoin blocks that do not signal support for Segregated Witness (SegWit), the centerpiece of Bitcoin Core’s scaling roadmap." The UASF, on the other hand, would be enforced by a majority of full nodes rather than relying on miners. In other words, the participating nodes signaling BIP 148 must represent a so-called “economic majority” of users, exchanges and businesses of the Bitcoin ecosystem. The time duration for the BIP-148 UASF is from August 1st to November 15th. During this time, the BIP-148 nodes will reject blocks that do not signal for Segwit. Now, after Nov. 15th, even the BIP- Jun 19, 2017 · Die UASF-Chain beinhaltet das Risiko, dass die Original-Chain vernichtet wird. Because it is a soft fork, there cannot be any replay protection otherwise it would become a hard fork. UASF is a mechanism where the activation time of a soft fork occurs on a specific date enforced by full nodes.

If the 148 BTC chain gets more accumulated proof of work, it should be the only chain to survive, and the split would be over. All 148 BTC would then simply be bitcoins (BTC) again. BIP 148 seeks to enact a user-activated soft fork (UASF) which would find node operators upgrading to SegWit. UASF – A Shove in the Right Direction.

UASF(User Activated Soft-Fork) UASF refers to the activation of a soft-fork without having obtained support from a large minority of miners.Normally, soft-forks are activated if they receive enough support from miners (95%), measured by counting the number of blocks signaling for a soft-fork proposal among the last 2016 mined blocks (as per BIP 9).
